How it works
Four steps from tip-off to the final buzzer
01
Tip off
Hit TIP OFF in the game. A three-second countdown starts the first of seven prompts.
02
Read the prompt
Each prompt sets a condition: a team, an era, a stat line, a college and more.
03
Shoot your answer
Type a name and press Shoot. Wrong guesses don’t stop the 25-second clock.
04
Go deep
Obvious names are layups. Rare deep cuts fly from long range and score big.
Scoring
The deeper the cut, the longer the shot
Every accepted answer has a preset value. One point equals one foot of range, up to 700 across seven prompts.
LayupThe first name everyone thinks of. Safe, but only a few points.
Mid-rangeA solid starter or role player most fans still remember.
Three-pointerA name that needs real basketball memory.
Long shotA deep cut from the end of the bench or a forgotten season.
Buzzer BeaterThe rarest valid answers — worth the full 100.
About the game
What is Long Shot Hoops?
A daily basketball trivia game where rarity is range
Long Shot is a free daily NBA trivia game from The Gravity Report. Every day brings seven basketball prompts and you have 25 seconds to name a player — or a college, arena, city or nickname — that fits each one.
The twist is in the scoring. Obvious answers are layups worth a handful of points. Rare, correct deep cuts are long shots worth far more, and one or two answers per prompt are Buzzer Beaters worth the full 100. Your total is shown as range in feet, so a perfect day reaches 700 ft.

Why basketball fans love it
Quick: seven prompts, about three minutes a day.
Fair for everyone: casual fans can still hit layups, while hoop-heads chase Buzzer Beaters.
Shareable: everyone gets the same seven prompts, so comparing range with friends is easy.
Deep: prompts span eras, teams, colleges and arenas — not just today’s stars.
